TOWN WEBSITE--NOTHING TO IT
by Edward Itor
POSTED: MARCH 21
The Town of La Pointe's website is finally up, after over a year of talk and meetings, and hiring Complete Computer Solutions from Hayward to design the site, rather than someone from the island.
We discovered the location of the site in an article from latest issue of The Island Gazette from Town Board member, Beth Fischlowitz who serves as the press/liaison. In this article Ms. Fischlowitz invites the public to have a look at it. Her articles states "we are not fully filled out yet, as we make haste to fill in each category, but by the time you read this news, some fields will be complete."
Although we commend the town for putting forth the effort and FINALLY moving into the 21st century, we were not surprised that there is literally no information on the site. None of the links go anywhere and the only information on the main page is a blurb about the island. We spent about a half hour looking for ANY content but could find none. (Go ahead and look for yourselves. If you find any content, please let us know and we will post a link.)
(It's kind of like going into a brand new store and finding nothing on the shelves to buy. Maybe Lori should try this with the L&D Trading Post!!!)
If the Town of La Pointe spent $3,000 just to get this far, I think they may have been over-charged. Our web consultant tells us that they could have done this in about 3 hours.
We were also surprised when we saw the website address. We believed we had obtained the domain name through a public information request to the Town Board, however it was NOT the domain name that we received via an email from Town Board Supervisor Ric Gillman.
The address we were given was www.townoflapointe.wi.gov
Click here to read the email we received from Gillman.
We are not surprised by any of this as once again, we are getting misinformation from our local government officials.
It most likely will be weeks, maybe months before the site starts to contain any useful information. In the meantime, we will continue to bring you information that we think you will be interested in.
The other thing that really surprised us is the complete lack of content. We would think that after all this time, all of the meetings, and all of the money spent (at least $3,000 to Complete Computer Solutions)
